Kyle Rittenhouse's Father Deputy In Kenosha Sheriff's Department?
A viral Facebook post claims that Kyle Rittenhouse’s father is supposedly a law enforcement officer in the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department. Kyle Rittenhouse is a 17-year-old male who was arrested and charged for allegedly shooting two people dead and injuring a third during protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The post currently has over 1600 shares and invites people to call the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department and ask for a Deputy Rittenhouse. Another identical Facebook post with the same message has over 600 shares.
The post doesn’t include any source for the claim. However, we can verify the claim by checking the Kenosha County website which includes a database of the county employees. The database does not list any individual with the surname Rittenhouse. The Sheriff’s Department in particular has only ten employees listed, none of whom are named Deputy Rittenhouse as the post claims.
Fact-checking website Politifact investigated the claim as well by calling the Sheriff’s Department. The department stated that no employee under that name works there. Politifact also checked with the City of Kenosha HR department to the same effect.
Furthermore, Kyle Rittenhouse is not even a resident of Kenosha, Wisconsin. According to coverage from the Chicago Tribune, Rittenhouse lives with his single mother in Antioch, Illinois. Rittenhouse was an avid supporter of the police and the Blue Lives Matter movement. He had also participated in a police cadet training program. However, there is no evidence to suggest that any member of his family serves as a law enforcement officer as the post claims.
