Georgia State Senator Caught On Video Counting Ballots?
A recent viral Facebook post claims that Georgia State Senator Elena Parent was caught on video counting votes in a Pennsylvania county. The post has been shared over 3 thousand times on Facebook currently. The post features the video showing a woman working with ballots and compares it with a picture of Senator Parent. The post concludes that the woman shown is the Senator and does not include any further sources for the claim.
However, the claim made by the post is false. The woman shown in the video is a local poll worker in Pennsylvania. The video clip can be traced via AP Archive and shows polling workers counting in an Allegheny County warehouse on November 7, 2020.
Fact-checking website Leadstories.com investigated the issue and contacted an Allegheny County spokesperson Amie Downs for details. Downs identified the woman in the video as someone who works on county property assessments.
Leadstories also contacted Senator Parent regarding the video. Senator Parent confirmed that she was not depicted in the video or the images and that she has not been to Pennsylvania anytime in 2020. Parent further states that the claims are discredited and that the claims are being made due to her appearance in a recent election hearing.
Furthermore, Georgia Voting System Implementation Manager Gabriel Stirling addressed the claim in a press conference on December 7, 2020. Stirling denied the claim and stated that the conspiracy theory of Senators flying over to other states to count votes was ridiculous.
As the woman shown in the video is confirmed to be a different person than Senator Elena Parent, the claim is debunked.
