Did Joe Biden Claim He Grew Up In Section 8 Housing?
A number of political-social media influencers have been sharing claims that Joe Biden said he once lived or grew up in one of the Section 8 houses. This claim is false
The origin of this claim can be traced to one of Joe Biden’s answers to questions racism at the ABC News town hall which took place on October 15, 2020. The exact comment can be found at 1:31:00 of the video.
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program was established by the government in 1974 to ensure that people who were earning low wages could get decent housing.
While Biden did mention Section 8 housing, it was to answer a question he was asked on reasons why the Black community should support his presidential bid.
In his response, he mentioned that he used to stay in a house that ‘later’ became part of the SECTION 8 HOUSING. Not that he ever lived in any of the Section 8 housing.
Section 8 Housing is one of the outcomes of a section of the US Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. Which was made to offer assistance to Americans that have relatively low annual income.
Therefore, Joe Biden never said he lived in a Section 8 housing.
