A recent viral Facebook post claims that CNN retracted one of its projections for the 2020 US Presidential Election. The post has over 1.3 thousand shares currently and was made by the HipHopPatriot Facebook page. The post states that CNN made a projection calling the state of Arizona for Joe Biden but later retracted this projection. The post contains an image of CNN’s electoral map for presidential projections on November 9, 2020. The post shows Arizona as grayed out and claims that it was previously blue.

However, the claim is false as CNN had not called Arizona for either Joe Biden or Donald Trump at the time mentioned on the post, let alone change it back to neutral. This can be verified by archived versions of the CNN page showing the electoral map on November 9, 2020. None of the archived pages of the CNN website before this date show Arizona colored blue for the 2020 election. CNN had not called Arizona for Biden even until 2:41 p.m. November 12, 2020.

USA TODAY investigated the claim as well. A CNN spokesperson told USA TODAY that Arizona had not been called at the time of the article but declined to comment on the color shading. Fact-checking website Leadstories.com also conducted a fact-check on the claim, coming to the same conclusion.

As there is no evidence of the CNN map showing Arizona as blue before the date of the post, the claim that CNN retracted the projection is false.
